As the spooky season draws near, it’s time to start thinking about spooky decor. Specifically, it’s time to reimagine your bathroom into a scary realm of Halloween fun. Decorating your bathroom for Halloween might seem unusual, but there are a plethora of Halloween bathroom theme ideas that can revamp your bathroom and transform it into a place of spooky fun.

Ever wondered what it would be like to make your bathroom gross and scary on purpose? Well with these Halloween-inspired hacks you can now experience the fun of breaking conventions and expressing yourself through unusual bathroom decoration ideas. Bathrooms are often an afterthought when it comes to interior decorations, but in this article, they will be front and center. Here are just a few of the best ways to add some Halloween bathroom decor to your water closet.

1. Bloody Bathroom

It’s amazing how scary you can make a bathroom look with just a touch of red food coloring.

If you want to go all out with your DIY Halloween bathroom decor, you can’t get more spooky than this. This bathroom decoration idea is both super gory and super fun for everyone involved because it’s a unique opportunity to let your imagination run wild with your bathroom theme ideas.

Usually, any bathroom decoration idea you have will have to be tempered by practical considerations such as budget, the space available, and materials that can be used in a room with lots of moisture. But with Halloween bathroom decorations such as these ones, all you need is red lipstick, red food coloring, and red paint, and you can decorate any surface in the bathroom. Go the extra mile by intentionally staining some old towels with red ink to truly give your bathroom the appearance of a murder scene.

2. Easy Spooky Fixtures

Even something as simple as putting a mannequin in your shower can create ultra-eerie vibes.

Any enterprising handyperson can make some simple changes to integrate some scary Halloween bathroom decor. A few dollar store items are all you need to add some extra ambiance and decorate the bathroom for Halloween. Slide old gloves over a toilet paper holder put a skull over your bathroom faucet, or even buy some freaky door handles.

There are also lots and lots of spooky signs that are perfect for your Halloween-decorated bathroom. Whether you’re a fan of Saw, Harry Potter, or any other film franchise perfect for the Halloween season, you can easily add some clever references all throughout your bathroom for extra atmosphere.

3. Bugs Everywhere

Make your bathroom look like it’s been overrun with creepy crawlies for a very spooky effect.

Make your bathroom look like it’s been overrun with creepy crawlies for a very spooky effect.

There are few things grosser than a home absolutely overrun with vermin. Picture spiders spinning webs and hanging from the ceilings, roaches swarming from every vent, and scorpions lurking in the bathtub. Basically, imagine the exact opposite of what you’d want a clean and fancy luxury bathroom to be.

It’s not a pretty sight, and that’s exactly why this is the perfect Halloween bathroom idea to give your guests the heebie-jeebies. Most everyone hates the yucky bugs, and a horde of fake plastic insects is therefore perfect for that Halloween atmosphere. The fact that these vermin are in the bathroom, a private place, only makes the scary effect all the stronger. If you’re looking for a really hair-raising bathroom decoration idea, look no further.

4. Toilet of Darkness

Who knows what may lurk in the dimly lit bathroom on a Halloween night?

Who knows what may lurk in the dimly lit bathroom on a Halloween night?

The beauty of this decoration is that it’s so simple and doesn’t break the bank. Literally, all you have to do for this Halloween bathroom idea to work is to reduce the lighting in your bathroom. If your bathroom has a window, block it out with a black panel. If you have a vanity light, remove the bulb, and better yet remove the bulbs for all the bathroom lights.

This kind of Halloween bathroom decoration keeps your guests off-kilter. You expect the light to work but it doesn’t, and so you have to enter an unfamiliar dark room with only candles to help you see. Purchase or DIY some scary bathroom curtains for an all-around scary atmosphere, and for an even more spine-chilling experience, see if you can hide a Bluetooth speaker in the bathroom that plays strange noises or monstrous cackles.

5. Spooky Lighting

Give your bathroom a strange UV light glow with some freaky LED lighting accents.

Alas, why stop just messing with the lights that are already in the bathroom? Why not replace them with something for that extra scary bathroom? We absolutely love LED lighting as a bathroom design trend for 2022 and two big reasons why are because it is cheap and versatile. All you need is an LED lighting strip or two and you can program them to glow in weird unnatural colors such as crimson or neon green, perfect for a strange glow in a dark Halloween-style decorated bathroom.

Better yet, stick one of those LED suckers in your toilet bowl. Nobody expects light to come out of there, so this decorative touch will be extra unsettling. If you’re not sure how to do that, worry not, as there are LED lights you can buy that are specifically made to be installed in toilet bowls. You can even control it from your smartphone, so no need to get your hands dirty!

6. A Body

Plastic skeletons also work as an alternative if the idea of a fake body as Halloween decor is too much.

Plastic skeletons also work as an alternative if the idea of a fake body as Halloween decor is too much.

This Halloween bathroom idea is not for the faint of heart. Rather, this is the bathroom decoration idea that could scare someone right out of their pants, and it requires some work to be convincing. You’re gonna need a lot of trash bags, duct tape, some red corn syrup, and perhaps a mannequin.

There really isn’t much to this. Your goal is to make it seem like something bad has happened to the “person” wrapped in the trash bags, and you’ve done a shoddy job of covering your tracks. If you don’t happen to have a full-sized mannequin just ‘laying around’ - totally understandable since most people don’t - you can try creating a ‘head’ and ‘torso’ with dirty laundry instead. After all, the ‘person’ will be wrapped in bags and lying in a dark bathroom, so nobody will notice it’s a fake.

7. G-g-ghostly Fixtures

It’s amazing what you can do with some strategic lighting for truly scary Halloween decor.

Here’s another super-easy Halloween bathroom decor idea for that perfect spine-chilling ambiance. Find yourself a mannequin - or a coat rack - and get a white sheet to hang over it, then place your ghostly character in the bathroom for guests to ‘discover’. This works really well as a Halloween bathroom decoration if you can get the ghost to stand just out of someone’s line of sight so they only notice it when they’ve already entered the bathroom.

You can do this by having the ghost hang out in the tub or even just hiding in a corner of the bathroom that you can’t see without entering. For something truly paranormal, see if you can hang the ghost from the ceiling. A full-size mannequin might not work for this but even a sheet over a large doll works just fine.

8. Something Non-Messy

There are of course plenty of little Halloween items you can add to your bathroom that doesn’t require fake blood or DIY know-how.

There are of course plenty of little Halloween items you can add to your bathroom that doesn’t require fake blood or DIY know-how.

Maybe you’re reading this list and thinking to yourself, “I wanna decorate the bathroom for Halloween, but I don’t want to make a bloody mess doing it. Isn’t there a single mess-free Halloween bathroom idea out there?” Fortunately, you’re in luck, as there are a few Halloween bathroom sets available that don’t involve fake blood or anything like it. None of this stuff will revamp your bathroom per se but it will certainly add some of the Halloween-themed design that kids especially love.

One subtle way to decorate your bathroom for Halloween is by simply replacing regular items with ‘spooky’ versions. So, for instance, you can swap out your regular soap dispenser for a skull soap dispenser, or do the same with your tissue box. A typical Halloween bathroom set can also come with scary stickers and decals. If you have a bathroom window, swap out the curtains for a Halloween-themed curtain with ghosts and pumpkins on it.

These Halloween bathroom decorations may not be as scary as some of the others on this list. Still, they are certainly more appropriate for younger children and generally more practical as well.

Combining these ideas allows you to transform any mundane everyday bathroom into something fully kitted out for your latest Halloween party. Having a very spooky October is as simple as making a few changes and letting your Halloween creative energies run wild.
