When it comes to deciding on the best month for house renovation or when is the best time to remodel your home, there is no easy answer. It’d be very convenient to have a list of all the room remodels and when is the most convenient time to have them done, but unfortunately, this isn’t that easy. There are a ton of factors that determine what time is best for your remodel.

There are some industry tips and tricks you can use to make your remodels and renovations less of a hassle and a more convenient process. If you can schedule your remodels and renovations just right, your projects are going to be much easier to handle and it might even save you some money in the process. So, consider the best time to renovate a house and each room and plan out your construction projects to suit you and your household’s needs.

When Is the Best Time to Remodel Your Living Room?

One of the best parts of remodeling the living room is that it’s not a room that is essential for you to get done with your daily responsibilities. While the kitchen, bedroom, and bathroom are crucial parts of your daily life, the living room is considerably less important. If you work in your living room, you can take it to your bedroom or the kitchen. If you like to relax in your living room after a long day, simply go to the bedroom or even go outside in your outdoor living areas. Even family time can be moved to a rec room or the outdoor deck without sacrificing any of the fun or wholesome activities that you love doing.

Since there is no practical reason to pick a specific time to remodel or renovate the living room, you can simply try to save money and stay within your remodeling budget. You can plan out your living room remodel or renovation right before the major holiday season, this being the end of November and going through December. Holidays like Black Friday give you a good opportunity to pick up furniture and appliances for great prices. Additionally, around this time, not many homeowners are planning any remodeling or renovation projects, so you have a better chance of finding contractors for a price that fits your budget.

Kitchen Renovation Time for the Least Amount of Hassle

When it comes to the best time to renovate the kitchen, one rule to keep in mind is to schedule it as far away from any big holidays as possible, which surely is a kitchen remodel “Don’t” . The last thing you need is to have a big Thanksgiving or Winter Holiday feast without a fully functioning kitchen. Keeping in mind how long a kitchen remodel takes,  you can get the remodeling or renovation done through October, you may have just enough time to have it ready for the holidays.

With Black Friday only a month away you can also purchase plenty of kitchen gadgets and appliances for more affordable prices and potentially lower the cost of your kitchen remodel. Also, around this time, contractors are more or less available, so you have more options at your disposal as far as professionals are concerned. You’ll have a wider range of tradespeople to pick from, which is not only great in terms of the budget but also gives you access to more niche specialists, such as a home automation specialist, for example. October is also the best time to remodel kitchens because they can get quite dangerous, especially if the gas, plumbing, and power lines are being fixed up. So the last thing you want is your kids running around the house getting into all kinds of trouble. If you renovate the kitchen during schooltime, you lower the risks of your children putting themselves in dangerous situations. It’s just another way of keeping them safe and ensuring that you have a successful renovation or remodeling project.

Getting the Bedroom Remodel Out of the Way

Minimizing the hassle when renovating your bedroom is imperative to the success of your remodeling plans.

Sleeping on the couch might be a hassle, but if you’re willing to persist through the remodel or renovation, it will only take away two to three months of your comfort for a full top to bottom project. Now, the bedroom speaks for itself, since if there is one thing it’s supposed to do is create a comfortable environment for you to sleep in. This can be done just about anywhere, but bedrooms have a few extra features that make them cozier to sleep in.

First of all: there’s heating. Your whole house may be heated, but your living room, for example, is not designed in such a way to accommodate you sleeping there. Especially if you have a big living room or great room, it’s going to be a very big hassle to heat it and keep it warm, what with all the windows and doorways letting out the heat. So, it would be a good idea to renovate the bedroom during the warmer months of the year, lest you freeze in your sleep.

Best Time to Remodel Bathroom

Bathroom remodels will pause some of your basic needs until renovations are complete, so it’s important to initiate your plans with that in mind.

This deserved its own separate category as bathroom remodels are a pretty big deal. To be fair, remodeling, in general, is a very arduous process. But unlike other rooms, you will need to use the bathroom, be it for washing up or taking care of your natural duties, so the longer the bathroom remodel takes, the more uncomfortable it might be. Where you can simply sleep on the couch if you’re remodeling a bedroom or have your food delivered if the kitchen is being worked on, you can’t do the same with the bathroom. So, it’s very important to figure out when you can remodel your bathroom throughout the year.

If you only have one bathroom in your home, then you may be in the need of a porta-potty. Renting these can cost you anywhere from $150 to $350 and they can be quite convenient to place in your backyard. Some bathroom remodels can take several weeks, making this a convenient solution to their bathroom problem. You can also rent a portable shower unit if the standard bathing unit in your home is being remodeled as well. If it is warm outside, as in late spring or early summer, you can use the portable bathroom and shower with ease. This cannot be said for the winter when there’s going to be snow outside. Having to put on your snow boots every time you want to use the bathroom doesn’t sound very fun. So, make it easier on yourself and your household and schedule your remodel for this time of the year.

Cheapest Time of Year to Remodel

How would one pick the most cost-effective time to renovate and remodel?

But if you’re looking to do a general remodel of your home, not any specific room on its own, then there is also a time of the year when it would be the most practical. Keep in mind, that this is not a be-all-end guideline and you may see benefits at other times of the year. However, this is when many contractors and experts recommend that you get your remodeling out of the way if you want to get more bang for your buck.

While it may not be convenient for everyone, getting your remodeling projects done through the winter could help you save some money. Because there are fewer homeowners who are willing to put up with the cold weather while getting through their remodels, there are more contractors available. With a higher number of available specialists, there is now a buyer’s market, as opposed to a seller’s, and now you have more freedom to dictate the prices and find specialists that fit your budget. The same goes for construction materials and equipment. Since these are not as in demand during the winter months, you can grab them for a cheaper price over the winter. This way you will save money on two fronts without having to organize overly complicated budget plans.
