Get a detailed, written contract

It is always a good idea to check the testimonials you read on Contractors.com. You can even ask to inspect some of the work the contractor has done in your area. Check to see if they are licensed and insured, and ask about warranties on labor and materials. Once you select a contractor, make sure you get a written contract. The contract should include the total cost for the project, payment schedule, start date, estimated completion date, and a complete list of materials.
