Building designers, or architects, are not hard to find. You simply put a search out for one on a search engine, or look in the yellow pages. What is hard to find is the right building designer for you. Whether you are building an addition or a whole new house, you want to make sure you are working with the right building designer for you.
First, pick one who will work with your budget. Be realistic about what you are willing to spend when you go meet with the building designer. Then tell the building designer what your budget is. If they are unwilling to work within your budget, look for a different building designer. The process is stressful enough, without having to worry that something will run over cost.
Second, pick someone who is responsive and who you can talk to. If you feel you cannot talk to your building designer, he or she is the wrong one for you. Designing any sort of building or addition requires constant, good communication. Without good communication you are not going to get what you wanted. If communication is lacking, find a new one.
Lastly, find someone who has experience with what you want. Experience is the key when designing a building or addition, and someone who has done so before knows some of the pitfalls to avoid.
These are three simple tips for finding the right building designer for you.
